Bon Voyage
Figured I’d get another blog post in before internet becomes more rationed in the Pacific.
We cast off from La Paz, Mexico yesterday evening and it’s starting to become real that we’re crossing the Pacific!
The crew
To get ourselves situated we’re starting with two person night watches. Jesse and I got the 8am-2am shift which feels infinitely more manageable than the 2am-8am shift Dirk and Chelsea are pulling.
The best part about being on opposite shifts is Dirk and I each get the bed to ourselves on our sleep shift, which if you’ve seen the size of it, you can understand why that is quite nice.
Spatious quarters
Wind has been coming and going for this first day (as expected) so was fun to get a chance to try out motoring, sailing, and the tried and true motor sailing combo.
Sailing is definitely the preferred method. Send thoughts of wind our direction please.
No whale sightings yet, but if someone could send them our way, that would also be much appreciated. [well done- just after typing this we see some whales breech nearby!]
Our ultimate landing destination is Gambier (French Polynesia) but if the winds don’t cooperate, we may shift to the Marquesas (also in French Polynesia).
Ultimately, for those of you keeping track, we went with 6 bananas and 20 large onions. Your input was appreciated.
Fruit hammocks for the win
We also have 7 Costco sized jars of peanut butter. I don’t think we’ll starve.
Time for me to go pretend to be helpful on this boat.
We'll try and keep the blog updated during the crossing assuming the wifi cooperates. Until next time folks, sending our love to family and friends!
